Municipal Election Information

Overview

The City of Meadow Lake follows The Saskatchewan Local Government Election Act, 2015. The Act sets out the process that must be followed for all Saskatchewan municipal elections. The last municipal general election took place on October 24, 2012. The current Mayor and Councillors will complete their four year term in October 2016. Terms of office for members of council begin at the first meeting following a general municipal election.

The Act states that the City Clerk will perform the function of the Returning Officer for the City unless Council appoints another person to act in that capacity. The Returning Officer is the person responsible for the overall process of the election - calling for and accepting nominations, arranging for election workers, identifying polling locations, monitoring the voting process and declaring the successful candidates. Any questions about the election process can be directed to the Returning Officer.

The last general municipal election was held on Wednesday, October 26, 2016.
