Fire Extinguisher Servicing

The Fire Department does NOT provide Fire Extinguisher Servicing.  Annual inspections, maintenance, refilling and hydrostatic testing are provided by private operators.  

Other than in private dwellings and private vehicles, all portable extinguishers must be checked monthly by the owner or manager of the premises, and be inspected annually by a qualified technician.

You, the customer, must ensure that anyone providing service is qualified to do so, including a Meadow Lake Business License and a recognized certificate in Fire Extinguisher Inspection and Maintenance.

The service provided by a portable fire extinguisher service company should include the following:

  • Technician carries a card from a recognized training institution, stating that they have been trained in accordance with NFPA 10, Standard for Portable Fire Extinguishers
  • Physical inspection and minor maintenance of all extinguishers on the premises
  • Tamper seal replaced
  • Tags and labels updated
  • 6-year and 12-year maintenance performed as needed
